Sam Donaldson looks at the Vatican rat lines that issued travel papers, and arranged a network of escape routes to Argentina for World War II fugitive war Nazi war criminals. The Vatican justified their involvement and had an elaborate escape system using their monasteries and convents for Nazis to escape. With the blessing of US and British government officials, the Vatican helped some 60,000 war criminals escape to Argentina to seek refuge.
While Donaldson visits the Argentine Little Germany, he comes in contact with a notorious Nazi war criminal. Even after this program was broadcasted in the mid-90s, Catholics still fill their pews.
